The day Kaylee was born was supposed to be a day filled with excitement and joy. Instead, it was filled with anxiety and fear as my doctors rushed her to the NICU and, within hours, diagnosed her with a "syndrome"-- although we had yet to determine what, exactly, that syndrome was. By the end of the week, we learned that she was born with a deletion on her 4th chromosome and a condition called Wolf Hirschhorn Syndrome.
WHS is a spectrum disorder, and Kaylee is on the severe end of it: she does not walk, stand, talk or eat by mouth. However, thanks to Schroth School in the Ladacin Network, she is learning to communicate some of her needs and able to engage as best she can in the world around her.
Unlike today's politicians, LADACIN Network truly does believe that "every life is valuable", evidenced by the commitment and dedication to providing educational, therapeutic, and social supports to the most vulnerable among us. However, the magic they do is not possible without financial support.
